The GetUp formed in early 2011 with an aim to make dance music that has something different. Being an instrumental band can be hard at first but they have found their musical feet through playing several gigs both in their hometown of Drogheda, Co. Louth and Dublin city. The summer of 2011 saw them play at Body & Soul festival in Co. Meath as well as headlining the after party to Drogheda’s Beat on the Boyne festival. 2012 is already shaping up to be a good year with regular slots in Dublin, notably playing The Village and Sweeney’s bar, Dame St.
The GetUp like to play a blend of grooves led by the rhythm section of Thom Tuite (bass) and Joe Heeney (drums and percussion), which at times is heavy and synth driven or otherwise laid back and everywhere in between. Shane Sullivan (guitar) and John Maher (keys and synth) create melodic tonalities, which incorporate elements of funk, dance and alternative styles that capture the ear in ways which our peers have not heard before.
The GetUp are always expanding their fan base and aim to get some much needed studio time under their belt before the end of this year. The only way to experience The GetUp at the minute is live so don’t think twice about going to see these motha’s in the flesh!
